Caspar David Friedrich was a German painter, graphic artist and draftsman. He is one of the most important artists of German Romanticism. His themes and motifs are landscapes, religion, loneliness, the idea of the afterlife and the hope of salvation. The paintings are characterized by a special melancholy. This also applies to his work “Der Wandere über dem Nebelmeer”, which is one of his best-known works. It is often used as a symbol of romance.
