"Guess How Much I Love You." is the title of the successful classic among the children books. Written by the Irish author Sam McBratney and illustrated with loving illustrations by Anita Jeram, the story of the two hares appeared in 1994. Since then, the two have been warming the hearts of both young and old.
With the request of the little hare "Guess how much I love you", the contest of the big and the little hare started. But it does not means the story is about outmaneuver the other one and to be better than the other one, the two hares loves each other…and how much they explain each other in the story "Guess How Much I Love You".
It started when the little hare was supposed to go to bed. But instead, he reached for the big hares long ears to make sure it was listening well to him. After all, the little hare has to tell something really important to the big one.
The big hare should guess how much the little one loves him. But he was not sure if he could guess that. Then the little hare stretched out his arms as if to embrace someone. The distance between his two arms should show the big hare how much he loved him. The big hare return the affection and does the same thing like the little rabbit. When the little hare saw how far the arms of the big one reached, he began to ponder and thought that this is way more than his distance of his paws. Consequently, he thought about something new, how he could show the big hare and prove how much he loved him. So the little hare stretched out his arms again. But this time he stretched as high as he could. But when the big hare showed him in the same way, how much he loved the little one, it was much more again. There followed further attempts of the little hare to show how much he loved the big hare. But no matter what he tried and how much he tried it was not enough to get close to the love of the big hare.
It was getting dark, the moon rises and the little rabbit was already tired. The little hare was so tired he has no further idea what comparison he could bring to show the big one how much he love him, until he let his gaze wander out into the dark night. Then the perfect comparison comes into his mind "I love you to the moon." as soon as he said it, the little hare fell asleep. Astonished at the extent, the big hare put the little one in his bed of leaves, gave him a goodnight-kiss, snuggled up to his side, and whispered to him with a smile: "To the moon ... and back we love each other."
